BittWare Announces Reconfigurable FPGA AMC Module Featuring SFP/SFP+ Compact Optical Transceivers

SANTA CLARA, CA - October 22, 2008 - BittWare, the leading supplier of FPGA-computing and hybrid (FPGA+DSP) digital signal processing COTS solutions, announced today at the AdvancedTCA Summit their newest AdvancedMC module - the SF/GX-AMC (SF/GXAM). The SF/GXAM features four small form-factor pluggable-plus (SFP/SFP+) transceivers enabling support of virtually any serial communication standard, including Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, CPRI, and OBSAI. The four SFP/SFP+ SerDes channels are connected directly to the on-board Altera® Stratix® II GX FPGA which handles the higher level communications protocols. The SF/GXAM enables BittWare's customers to meet their increased bandwidth needs while also maintaining a small board footprint, and low power consumption.

Along with the four-cage SFP/SFP+, the SF/GXAM provides an Altera Stratix II GX FPGA, BittWare's ATLANTiS™ framework (implemented in the FPGA), a front panel I/O interface, a control plane interface via BittWare's FINe™ interface bridge, an IPMI system management interface, and a configurable 11x SerDes AMC interface supporting a variety of protocols. It also provides 10/100 Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, two banks of DDR2 SDRAM, one bank of QDR2 SRAM, and Flash memory for booting the FPGA and FINe.
About the SF/GXAM
Based on Altera's Stratix II GX FPGA, BittWare's SF/GX-AMC (SF/GXAM) is a full-size, single wide AdvancedMC that can be attached to AdvancedTCA carriers or other cards equipped with AMC bays, and used in MicroTCA systems. The SF/GXAM provides a four-cage SFP/SFP+ connector on the front panel with each transceiver providing support for virtually any serial communication standard, including: Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, CPRI, and OBSAI. The four SerDes channels are connected directly to the Stratix II GX FPGA.
The on-board FPGA, an Altera Stratix II GX, was specifically designed for serial I/O-based applications requiring high-density, reconfigurable logic. The FPGA provides up to 15 full-duplex high-performance, multi-gigabit transceivers supporting Serial RapidIO, PCI Express, 10GigE, Gigibit Ethernet, and SerialLite II standards. It contains up to 132,540 equivalent LEs, over 6700 kbits of embedded memory, 252 embedded 18x18 multipliers (63 DSP blocks), and 8 PLLs.
The SF/GXAM is supported by BittWare's ATLANTiS™ Framework. The Framework is implemented in the on-board FPGA and provides fully validated board-level interfaces for I/O, communications, and memory; an internal dataflow interconnect fabric that allows the ATLANTiS modules to be easily connected; and a control fabric that allows them to be easily coordinated and controlled. These modules facilitate all off-board I/O providing communications routing and processing, creating a stable, high performance signal processing platform that frees the designer to focus on application development rather than reinventing board-level infrastructure.
BittWare's FINe™ bridge provides control plane processing and interface via Gigabit Ethernet on port 0 of the common options region. It also provides 10/100 Ethernet and RS-232 on the AMC front panel.
BittWare offers comprehensive software support for the SF/GXAM. The BittWorks software tools provide host interface libraries and a wide variety of diagnostic utilities and configuration tools. BittWare's FPGA Developers Kit provides modules for ATLANTiS (I/O, routing, and processing), memory interfacing, and DMAs. Many third party tools are also available to support BittWare's embedded boards, including Altera's Quartus II FPGA design flow tool and SOPC builder system-level design tool.
The SF/GXAM will begin shipping Q4 2008 priced under $4,000 in OEM quantities.
