Aitech Rad-tolerant 3U CompactPCI SBC

Chatsworth, Calif. – SP0, a 10 W, space-qualified, rad-tolerant 3U CompactPCI Single Board Computer (SBC) for manned and unmanned space systems has been unveiled by Aitech Defense Systems Inc. SP0 is powered by the MPC8548E, a Freescale PowerQUICC-III PowerPC capable of 1.17 GHz processing and 333.3 MHz DDR-1 and Core Complex Bus (CCB) speeds, and includes support for seven cards on a PCI backplane.

Beyond speed, the SP0’s processing complex also includes 32 KB each of instruction and data on an L1 cache and a 512 KB L2 cache integrated in the e500 System-on-Chip (SoC). An additional 1 GB of flash is standard with extension to 8 GB optional. Another 512 MB of ECC-protected DDR1 SDRAM and 512 KB of redundant boot flash ensuring mission-critical data integrity are also installed onboard.

Two GbE ports, four asynchronous serial ports, and five general-purpose discrete I/O channels routed to rear panel connectors highlight the extensive I/O interfaces, along with dual PCI buses and either eight lanes of PCI Express or four Serial RapidIO lanes. An an air- or conduction-cooled PMC slot allows for expansion.

To ensure synchronization, a 1 PPS (pulse per second) timer facilitates communications, and three additional watchdog timers capable of performing a non-maskable hardware reset in the event of a fault are included.
