ADLINK's latest COM Express(tm) Reference Carrier Board is 100% Compatible with Newly Released PICMG COM Express(tm) Carrier Design Guide

Following closely on the heels of the release of the PICMG COM Express(tm) Carrier Design Guide, ADLINK announces its latest version of its Express-BASE Reference Carrier Board for Basic Form Factor Type 2 COM Express modules.

May 7, 2009, San Jose, Calif – ADLINK Technology, Inc., a leading global provider of trusted embedded products, announced that the new version of its Express-BASE Reference Carrier Board is 100% compatible with the recently released PICMG COM Express™ Carrier Design Guide.

ADLINK was a key initiator in the establishment of the PICMG subcommittee that was tasked with developing a vendor-independent design guide for COM Express carrier boards. The committee was chaired by ADLINK's Chief Technology Officer, Jeff Munch, who played a crucial role in leading the subcommittee to the completion of the design guide with the collaboration of more than a dozen major COM Express module suppliers. "The PICMG COM Express Carrier Design Guide, when used together with module vendors' product manuals, will greatly simplify design effort and help improve the interoperability of a customer's unique carrier board with a vast majority of computer modules available from various PICMG members," said Jeff Munch.

The PICMG COM Express Carrier Design Guide is a 150-page document that provides information for designing a custom carrier board for COM Express modules. The design guide includes reference schematics for the external circuitry required to implement the various COM Express peripheral functions, explains how to extend the supported buses, and how to add additional peripherals and expansion slots to a COM Express-based system.

The ADLINK Express-BASE is a reference carrier board for Basic Form Factor Type 2 COM Express modules in standard ATX size that allows system designers to emulate the functionality of the desired end product with their chosen COM Express module and get a head start on software development and hardware verification. The latest version of the ADLINK Express-BASE is fully compatible with the design practices described in the PICMG COM Express Carrier Design Guide and provides a full complement of I/O interfaces, debugging tools, and peripheral devices (such as Super I/O and an audio codec) that may be required on the custom carrier board. The full schematics and mechanical drawings of the Express-BASE are available for download from the ADLINK website (as well as the PICMG COM Express Carrier Design Guide) to allow customers to immediately begin their own carrier board design effort. A complete Starter Kit is also available, which includes the COM Express module of choice (including CPU and memory), the Express-BASE reference carrier board, thermal solution, documentation, and software library (Express-BASE product page).

ADLINK's Full Computer-on-Module Product Line

ADLINK's complete Computer on Module product family includes COM Express modules for PCIe/PCI designs and ETX® modules for PCI/ISA oriented designs. The ETX product line ranges from ultra-low power Intel® Atom™ to Core™2 Duo CPU offerings with full legacy support, while the COM Express product line offers the same range in CPU performance as well as server-level chipsets and smaller modules in the Compact and Ultra COM Express form factors for space-restricted applications.

Carrier Board Design and Manufacturing Support

In addition to providing schematics, mechanical drawings and design guides, ADLINK offers product review services and BIOS customization for companies that are designing their own carrier boards. ADLINK also offers full development and production services for those who wish to outsource their carrier board design and/or manufacturing.
