Designing and integrating a high-density CompactPCI-based voice gateway
With the availability of standardized, off-the-shelf board components, older proprietary telecom systems are now being replaced with high-density voice gateways. These modular gateways can be customized (and scaled) to meet the needs of each user, even as those needs change with time. In this article, Yogendra describes the features that these high-density gateways must have to support our current hybrid telecom infrastructure, which is composed of both old and new equipment. Then he shows how to build a modular voice gateway that supports up to 384 channels, based on standardized software and the CompactPCI backplane standard.
