Insertion and extraction considerations for CompactPCI plug-in units

CompactPCI AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA Systems — September 1, 1998

Articles, Special Feature: Fall 1998Ever-higher clock frequencies in microprocessors and increased miniaturization of components are intensifying the demands placed on products and materials. This not only increases problems with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), but new bus systems such as VME64x and CompactPCI are now requiring high pin count connectors. While these new high pin count connectors provide a necessary solution, they also introduce the challenge of high insertion and extraction forces for the plug-in units. For this reason, keying of the plug-in units is also becoming increasing critical. Author Volker Haag explains how Schroff designed a handle that is able to meet all of the above requirements.
